Among Roses, love

Among wild roses,
intoxicating fragrance
you fill me with hope.

Honestly, some dreams were so far away I'd forgotten I once held them at all. It was not until I began painting my Rose Garden Series, exploring roots of my family, the loss of my son and granddaughter ~ that my own girlish dreams began coming back to life.

In the video, see how I draw threads of creative energy from my rose garden through my heart. The emotions transform into colors and blossom into art.

As my exploration of the rose garden evolved, my feelings about the loss of my son, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law did as well. While it felt inexplicable in words, love found its way in this work, Among Wild Roses.

In this video, you will see how I collage snippets of old and new textiles from my stash to embrace the wildness of unconditional love.

You can see the progression, as The Rose Garden series evolved I began plotting single roses which cascaded throughout. As the creative energies bloomed, the Hot Pink Goddess emerged.

In the next video, you can see the two goddesses emerging. Interwoven between two paintings; Mercy and Birthing Dreams you can see them joining hands to hold the bouquet of hearts!

Here I am working on Belgian linen with silk collage, acrylic paint, willow charcoal, and oil paint stick. Click on the individual images for detail photos of each textile.

"My place in the sun is my sunroom garden studio by the pond. Located in Virginia, the vortex where the Great Chesapeake Bay Watershed flows into the Atlantic Ocean flows beneath my studio garden by the pond. Becoming part of the largest estuary in North America happened automatically as I painted over the fifty years. "
