I’ve started creating a series of mixed media charcoal drawings on canvas.
Meadow I |
The black and white draws on my training as a printmaker with it’s bold calligraphic willow charcoal drawings. Evoking a woodcut, etching, or even a lithograph ~ my mixed media process fuses painting and drawing.
Here I am using a gold earth underpainting of translucent acrylic to ground the work with a radiant light. A photograph from my garden inspires the red line drawing in tailor’s chalk.
With pearlescent white acrylic, I layered the shimmering meadows in with casual brush strokes. This set the stage for me to express my passion for the flowers in my garden with a cigar sized stick of willow charcoal. The piece is sealed with fixative, and may be stretched and framed without glass.
Meadow I & II |
Heartland Meadow Series
Shimmering meadow represents the heart land. The gold undertone signifies our connection with earth. A radiant expressive array of brush strokes symbolizes symbiotic wellness. A community of wildflowers stands stall in the heartland meadow.

Butterfly Essence
Butterfly Essence II |
From the black and white, I’ve created an original print with layers of several works fused digitally. A series of black silhouetted butterflies creates a mask to reveal colors from my Butterfly Garden painting. The Belgian linen texture shines through, complimenting the canvas illustration.
