Embodying the Landscape
Healing Arts
Painting emotional colors releases creative energy through the body. As I paint, I am breathing deeply, feeling colors, sensations, directions with my heart, shoulders, hips, torso. Which color to put where comes to me in subtle sensations, not verbal instructions from a thinking brain. As I have aged into my creative process, my faith to trust the flow increases. This further opens the heart valve on creator's flow.
IN THE VIDEO
What you're witnessing is me working to heal an energy leak caused by the knife attack thirty years ago. I saw it in the painting, which you'll see pointed out in the video. I don't usually film such personal moments in the studio as this one. This video was filmed on the cellphone with time lapse, so the quality is a bit jerky.
During the painting session, you'll see how the would is healed. No longer stabbing in the middle, the river begins to flow thought the center of the painting. Bringing the two panels together into a singular work of art.
Unbeknowenst to me at the time, the two butterfly hands reach out on either side of the diptych.
The River Symbolizes the creator
In this series, you can see metamorphosis happening. When I saw the stabbing wound in the artwork, I recognized its symbolism as a mirror of my trauma wound.
In the paintings below, you can see the evolution of the healing process. The two paintings in the video turned sideways to reveal the ocean like waves, co joined, with butterfly hands riding the waves.
In other works in this series, we see the river moving in various positions in the landscape, the fertile heart meadow appearing, and blooming. Notice that in The River Flows Up, white light dances throughout the meadow and the river (which previously ran horizontally) now flows up from the foreground.
